Climate Action Plan 2026-2029
Our Commitment to Climate Action
Development Dynamics (DD) is a Pan-African systems-change and innovation firm based in Nairobi, Kenya, that has been operating since 2019. We partner with organisations and leaders in Africa and across the globe – those who care about people, places and the patterns that shape equity and justice.People most affected by systemic issues, and whose experiences carry truth and innovation.Places that hold potential for connected, thriving communities.Patterns/Issues that sustain or dismantle inequality and exclusion.
Our work focuses on complex social and environmental challenges; those that are difficult for any single actor to “solve.” We offer advisory services across a range of sectors, though largely within the thematic areas of climate change and health, education, and development finance.
We know that climate change disproportionately affects the people we work to support — those living on the margins of society whose voices are not frequently included in national and local-level decision making processes. Women and girls, children and youth, people with disabilities, gender minorities, marginalised or indigenous communities – we interface with their realities everyday. We are determined that climate change should not be an additional barrier or burden to their lives and our work advocates for equity and justice for them.
At DD, we acknowledge our contribution to climate change through business operations including business travel, electricity consumption, procurement, and digital operations. These impacts were identified through a general review of operations which have been listed as contributors to climate change in sector frameworks and the GHG protocol (Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions). Since DD is a small business, a detailed baseline GHG assessment was not conducted.
Development Dynamics commits to supporting the global ambition to limit global warming to 1.5℃, as per the 2015 Paris Agreement. We commit to measuring and tracking our contribution towards this ambition through evaluation and annual reporting. This document details our targets and the actions we will take to support this goal. The Advisory Council reviews performance annually and approves updates to the action plan.
Vision and Targets
Our Vision
Our vision is to become an ethical, sustainable business that operates within planetary boundaries and provides benefits to people and the planet.
Stakeholder Engagement Plan
Objectives of Engagement
The success of the climate action plan relies on the engagement of Development Dynamics’ stakeholders. Below are the key objectives of stakeholder engagement:To attain a comprehensive, inclusive, systemic understanding of how climate change impacts different stakeholders. To involve stakeholders in providing valuable, context-specific insight towards the development and implementation of the action plan.To understand the power, interest, and influence of various stakeholder groups on implementing the climate action plan.
Stakeholder Groups
A range of stakeholders in DD’s direct sphere of control, influence and concern are impacted by climate change, inequities, and climate actions.
i) Development Dynamics Team
Team members may face the effects of climate change in their day-to-day lives, whether personally or professionally. Recent flooding events in Nairobi, in March 2026, for instance, have affected people’s homes and possessions. At a professional level, team members may be dispatched to execute field assignments in areas where heat-health effects can be complicated, water is scarce or air quality is unfavourable. Flooding may also affect the office and its environs, making movement difficult. These examples highlight the need for climate resilience planning, including considering infrastructure retrofitting.
ii) Partners and Clients
The firm’s core work is delivered through interactions with clients and partners around the world, rather than directly with local communities. We offer advisory services to social impact and development partners in the domains of insight (knowledge production and sharing), innovation (design and systems practice), and investment (resource mobilisation and capital infrastructure). Though sector agnostic, our support to clients and partners often falls within the thematic areas of climate & health, sexual and reproductive health & rights, and governance & leadership. Our work with and for clients or partners is primarily executed remotely using online collaboration tools, with occasional dispatch to field sites, offsite workshops or client offices.
iii) Suppliers
The firm procures merchandise, goods and services from a range of suppliers to support business operations. These include: Food & cateringOffice spacesEvent spacesMediaPrinting & stationeryMerchandiseTransport
iv) Advisory Council
The Advisory Council is a small group of individuals providing advisory support and strategic guidance to the firm. Climate change impacts may affect their participation in this role, personally and professionally.
Stakeholder Engagement Plan
The stakeholder engagement plan is differentiated based on the level of influence on DD’s operations, i.e.
- In-depth engagement: Stakeholders will be involved through collaboration and co-design of the climate action plan in a process that starts early in ideation and continues through implementation.
- Light engagement: Stakeholders will be kept informed of plans, successes and challenges of the climate action plan through external communications.
