Development Dynamics exists to accompany African institutions, coalitions, and funds as they navigate complex systems challenges with clarity, courage, and strategic imagination. We serve as a justice- and trust-anchored partner at the intersection of insight, innovation, and investment. Our work helps leaders and collectives make sense of complexity, strengthen the institutional and relational foundations of change, and direct resources toward futures that are more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable.
We occupy a space that remains underserved across the ecosystem. Many systems responsible for public good are stretched by fragmentation, short funding horizons, inherited development orthodoxies, and weak alignment between vision, decision-making, and capital. DD responds by helping African actors see their systems more fully, interpret patterns that matter, rehearse future possibilities, and move from scattered effort toward coherent action.
Our long horizon is clear. We are working toward an Africa in which inclusion, equality, and sustainability are embedded in the design of institutions, the rhythms of collaboration, and the everyday practice of leadership.
Development Dynamics has evolved through continuous practice and intentional reflection rather than a predictable institutional path. Our growth has been forged in motion, shaped by complex realities and a shifting landscape that demands support capable of balancing immediate needs with long-term transformation.
DD emerged as a Kenyan boutique consultancy with a strong footing in policy communications, grant management, institutional accompaniment, and health adjacent work, especially within the health and youth programming and social behaviour change landscape.
A period of widening and consolidation.
The associate model (core team of those whose DD’s magnet had brought together) deepened, the practice architecture became more intentional, participatory design and systems thinking moved closer to the center of the firm’s identity.
A more profound eagerness and further discovery off the triple-play approach - (fusing design, systems and foresight), as a proprietary model of engagement, and solidifying collectivization approaches. As a B-Corp, our politics, Afro-centricity and impact became more international.
Today, DD carries the memory of those phases and everyone who has been part of the journey towards and within our current form (LLP, Foundation & DD Trust). The responsiveness of the early years remains. The strategic widening of the middle period remains. The sharper institutional clarity of the recent phase remains.
In late 2022, we embarked on a bold journey toward enhancing our processes, striving to meet the stringent standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency established by B Corp Certification.
As 2023 commenced, we embarked on the comprehensive B Impact Assessment, meticulously evaluating our impact on stakeholders, including our workers, community, customers, and environment. Simultaneously, we ensured compliance with Kenya’s regulations, meticulously refining our legal documentation.
As of February 2024, we are thrilled to announce that Development Dynamics has officially earned B Corp Certification, a remarkable milestone in our dedication to social and environmental responsibility.
Get ready to unleash your creativity and innovation with #HackingtheHyphen, an upcoming innovation challenge by Development Dynamics. Teams of 3 to 5 individuals aged 18 to 30 are invited to tackle critical challenges at the intersection of Sexual Reproductive Health Rights, Gender and Justice, and Climate Justice. The winning team will receive a small grant to implement their solution. Solutions must address communities disproportionately affected by climate injustice, gender inequality, and lack of access to SRHR or justice and reflect the diversity of the communities they aim to serve. Judging criteria include uniqueness, feasibility, scalability, clarity, impact, accessibility, and the ethical use of AI.
